Hygge -and then what…

Anya Jensen11th November 2016

Many of you know that I published my first online magasin through Issuu a bit over a month ago – have a look here. The response has been overwhelming to say the least, and I have reached more people than I ever hoped possible. Perhaps it is because the market is flooded with hygge at the moment, and perhaps it is because I managed to make something people like.

I read an article today where an editor said she hated hygge, and declared war on the concept. It was a great friend who told me about the article and it actually made me chuckle. Because – yes, Hygge has become a trendy concept, and apperantly thousands  of books have been published, that explore how to hygge, cozy up, and stay warm during the winter months.

We do it here – most of us. We use hygge to get us through the winter months. And the summer months, and the rest of the year. And it probably is a banal concept, where candlelight, simplicity and chilling out – on a low key scale play a big part. But it is also hygge, and being with people, feeling at easy and taking a moment to enjoy what you have. I think it is here to stay. If not all over the world, then at least in Denmark.

But then what you might ask? what will you write about then? Well – the same things I have always written about. Togetherness, family life, kids growing up, travelling, design, food and lots and lots more. Everything and anything that makes my heart beat just that little bit faster.

Thanks for visiting – I truly love your support and comments,  – that’s hyggligt, and the reason I keep doing what I love doing.

Love your blog and the magazine. It certainly doesn’t matter whether Hygge is trendy or not. I don’t follow trends… Only what feels good/works well for me. Hygge definitely works well! It’s a wonderful way to live and something we should all practice more of. Thanks for Sharing your thoughts and ideas on it.

I find the notion that people so often say about any topic (whether it be Hygge, exposed bricks, skinny jeans etc.) that an idea is unstylish or ‘not cool’ because lots of other people are doing it, so frustrating. After all, we should be supporting people doing things, wearing things and decorating in a way that makes them happy. And given Hygge is about such important values – coziness and socialising with friends/family in the comfort of home – I can’t see why people would sneer at that just because it’s suddenly something people are embracing outside of Denmark. Essentially, keep it up, Anya – I love your blog and magazine! 🙂

I believe start reacting contrary to hygge is due to the oversharing and I know bet of many that jump the wagon. Those people – the ones that write and live – don«t really grab the concept because more than anything is something you live within. Or not.
    Complicated and simple as that.
Yes, smoothies are good for me are a trend. Can’t stand it. Does it mean I’m not healthy? No it just says I didn’t jump that trend wagon.
And to be honest I am one of those people who don’t like to jump on wagons. There’s not wrong on not adopting the year trend and use it whenever you want or achieve what it does suggests.
If you want to see me skip some article is to the American way of publishing it with YOU MUST have/do/be on the title. Gone and will only return if I have nothing better to do. I don’t allow people to command my life. It’s – I think 😉 – the only one I’m going to get to spoil it with other people’s ideas instead of living my own 🙂
YOUR hygge is now like that. I always saw it – even before you labeled it – as showing how you live. At, with, within. What touches you, what makes you happy… and that’s all the Hygge I’ll need in my life – you, your family, your home, the things you see, you touch but not in a way of beginning a religion but in sharing sweet way that invites us, welcomes us. However we are, feel and like. HYGGE.
And now I’m craving ice cream, I wish I had that skirt and sneakers look today. Not for the Hygge but because it all looks great as I want to feel.
(sorry for the long comment. Not very hyggligt but I never said I was. Just that I LOVED it. And you.
Be Well. Happy and Hyggish (I bet the hygge scrooges never had the courage to come up with this name 😉 too bad explains a lot ahahahahah)
May the Sun warm you through the weekend. xox
