Copenhagen on a rainy day – Guide

Anya Jensen23rd August 2016

Summer in Denmark can be a bit unpredictable, as sunny days, blue skies, and heat is never guaranteed in Scandinavia.  We have a saying in Denmark – “There is no such thing as bad weather – only bad clothing” – and it is a saying we live by. This country is cold, grey and wet for many months of the year, and we have to be able to enjoy the outside all year. We are experts at dressing for the weather, and also experts at finding things to do when the weather is not so agreeable.

Today, I have compiled a list of our favourite places to take the kids indoors, if you don’t fancy being outside.

Glyptoteket. The museum for ancient and modern art, with changing exhibitions, and lots of mummies; Glyptoteket boast the biggest collection of antiques in Northern Europe. And the winter garden café is well known for their yummy cakes.

Statens Museum for Kunst – The Danish National gallery is always a fun place for kids and adults alike. They even have a children’s wing – see more here.

Den Blå Planet – The Danish Aquarium has a new exhibition called Planet shark‘ and it is all about – well you guessed it – sharks!

Rundetårn – The Round Tower. The best view of Copenhagen. There is also a kissing bench on the way up. The round tower is round all the way up, with no lifts. We love running all the way to the top.

Cisternerne – the underground caves of Copenhagen. A must see place if you visit Copenhagen. Damp, dark and utterly perfect.

DGI byen has one of the prettiest indoor swimming pools in the city – Vandkulturhuset, well worth a visit so you can get wet but on the inside. Afterwards, it is great fun to go bowling at CPH bowling & Lounge.

Louisiana. One of the best museums – just 30 mins outside Copenhagen. The museum boasts amazing views of the sea, as well as changing exhibitions. The children’s wing is also one of our favourite places to hang out.

Such great places. Copenhagen always had a special place in my heart. Used to visit as a kid – my parents had some danish friends in Homlbaek (I think it was called that) and we used to visit.
    Xx
