Gammeldags Æblekage – Danish no-bake applecake

Anya Jensen15th September 2017

This recipe is one we have always used in my family, and one I always go back to. Proper ‘Old Fashioned Danish Apple cake’ is actually Apple sauce – chunky or not – mixed with lots of yummy stuff.

Basically our old fashioned Apple cake – is a no-bake version, and one I remember devouring as a kid (and now to be honest.)

The ‘cake’ is so easy to do and you can whip it up in no time should you have people over for afternoon coffee.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

For the Apple sauce.

4 apples – peeled, cored and chopped 3/4 cup water
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pop in the saucepan and simmer until the apples have dissolved and they become soft. Puree if you want and leave in the fridge to cool completely.

For the Crumble:

Butter – 3/4 cup 1/2 cup of:

Bread crumbs Sugar
Oats

Melt the butter and when browned, add the ingredients until the sugar starts to caramelize. Take off the heat, leave to cool, and with your fingers ‘crumble’ until fine and even.

Whip some cream, and start layering your apple sauce, then add the crumble + add a generous amount of whipped cream and repeat until your glass is full. Serve immediately.

This looks so delicious – simple, healthy (fruit!) and just right for this time of year when apples are in the back garden 🙂 Thanks for sharing; I’m saving this recipe to try myself!

It is so yummy, and very easy to make. Because it isn’t filled with sugar (only a tad) I tend to tell myself it is a healthier type of pudding 🙂
